TASK 2
List
LECTURES
Refer to Task 1.
Week 6
Mr Vinod reminded us the deadline of Task 1 and advised us to manage our time well. Then, Mr Vinod gave feedback based on our last week's assignment. We were given some time to fix our design and get feedback from Mr Vinod again.
Week 7
Mr Vinod reminded us the deadline of Task 2. Then, Mr Vinod asked us to use the tools we brought to write on the paper.
INSTRUCTIONS
TASK 2: Typographic Exploration and Communication
For Task 2, we have to create a 2-page editorial spread (200 mm * 200 mm) with the provided text. We should choose one of the three text given. No images or colour, but minor graphical elements such as lines, shadow, etc. might be allowed.
1. Research
Before working on the task, I looked at various visual references to develop my ideas.

2. Sketches
I came out with three different expressions of headlines and layouts after doing research.
3. Headline Expressions Exploration
4. Layouts Exploration

Designs After Mr Vinod's Feedback
Since Mr Vinod said that Bauhaus is more like building instead of houses, I set 'H' as building. Mr Vinod thought that the new headline works but 'H' didn't look like building.

FEEDBACK
Week 6
General Feedback: Expressions should emphasize the meaning of the words. The graphical elements mustn't attract more attention than the text. Line length shouldn't be too long or too short, short line length will cause rivers. Line length should maintain while dealing body text. Using Bodoni for body text is a bad idea.
Specific Feedback: Replacement is neat. Need to work harder with type expression. Bauhaus is more like buildings instead of houses. Need more reading and research before working for better understanding. Pay attention on just one thing while working.
Week 7
General Feedback: Make sure all the final submission have JPG and PDF.
Specific Feedback: The lines are not working.
REFLECTIONS
Experience
I used what I had learned from Task 1 in this Task. I refered to the tutorial video whenever I forgot what should I do and be careful with. I sketched out my ideas first and then proceed to headlines and layout explorations. We have to read and understand the meaning of the headlines before starting our work so that we can come out with expressions which is more emphasize the word. Mr Vinod only gave us short feedback and advice on our e-portfolio organization. I have fun while designing headline word expressions and creating neat layouts
Observation
I had made some headlines variations from my skectches. We may pop up new ideas while exploring different attempts and doing more research. Feedback from Mr Vinod helps me a lot in organizing this task.
Findings
I found out that it is significant to know and follow the rules so that we can come out with better design. The previous task helps me to improve a lot in this task. I am more aware of the rules while working with the headline word expressions and creating layouts. It will become easier when we are familiar with the rules.
FURTHER READING
I have read about the White Space in Part 2: The Tangibles of this book.
The white space in typography is more significant than the black of the type. White space helps to separate the different parts
of the message besides helping to position the message in
the context of the page.
White space can be manipulated in many forms such as tight margins and wider margins, tight type and loose type, decreasing or increasing the letter spacing (kerning), etc. All this is space
manipulation is used in
layouts to achieve a desired expression.
The relationship between the size of type and the
space around it is one of the most delicate and
precious elements of a composition.
The masterful handling of white space on a
printed page is the most peculiar attribute
of American graphic design. Just like space is the
protagonist in Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture.
